MD1.4

Design Language Deepened

Level 2 · BootCampMD1 FoundationsTaught week 2 Thursday after lunch

Start the Lesson

By the end you can set a column grid in Inkscape by numbers from a paper rough, page, margins, columns and gutters, and verify it by reading the fields; build a type swatch of two faces and four sizes with a job for every size; rebuild a real flyer onto the grid with the before locked and faded underneath; defend every change by rule name or measurement; direct one AI critique and keep or kill its suggestions on screen; and squint at the after on a phone.

Start the lesson 59 moves in 10 parts. You need: Inkscape, installed and logged in MD1.1 · one real local layout from the pool, photographed straight on before anything moves · your MD folder and FS4's naming rule · the column sums on the whiteboard · your notebook and a pencil · your phone, and the laptop-to-phone route the SA names

What You Turn In

  1. Your working file (Inkscape SVG)
    1. Grid visible as guides set by numbers; type swatch on the pasteboard; the before on a locked layer, your rebuild on its own; labelled hand-made, one AI critique directed by me
  2. Before and after images
    1. The before photographed straight on before anything moved; the after exported as PNG and checked on a phone
  3. Grid card and type scale card
    1. Page, margins, columns, gutters ticked 'set in Inkscape'; two faces, four sizes, four jobs, no size without a job
  4. Annotation list and squint line
    1. At least four changes, each with a rule name or a measurement; what survives on a phone at arm's length and the worst thing you fixed
  5. Director receipts and method note
    1. The critique's spec and answer, what you kept and killed and why; one thing you might be wrong about and how you would find out
  6. Clip of the Day: The Grid, Measured
    1. By the week 3 Monday morning meeting: 15 to 20 seconds, upright 9:16, exported at 720p as an MP4 under 30 MB (megabytes) and saved in your own Mufasa folder; the before, the guides with their numbers, the type scale, the first elements, in that order; each caption a rule and its number, matching the Inkscape fields; your name and the label on the end card; the Google Drive share link (viewer) and your AI receipt in Asha, never the video itself

Stuck, or want to check your thinking? Paste this card into your own AI and ask it to question you, not answer for you.

How

  1. Asha, by the week 3 Saturday update.
Done when
  1. Working file (SVG): Grid as guides set by numbers; swatch present; reference and rebuild layers
  2. Before and after images: Before taken first; after exported as PNG and checked on a phone
  3. Grid card + type scale card: Four numbers stated and ticked; two faces, four sizes with jobs, no orphans
  4. Annotation list + squint line: Four or more changes, each with a rule or a measurement; squint line answered with why
  5. Director receipts + method note: Spec, answer, keeps and kills by rule; a real doubt and how to check
  6. Clip of the Day: The Grid, Measured: 3 as 2, plus: the messy before is the hook in the first two seconds; every caption number matches the fields; one AI suggestion killed by rule, the reason written. · 2 15–20 s; upright 9:16, 720p MP4 under 30 MB; captions burned in inside the safe area; end card with the name and the label; AI receipt filed; before, guides with their numbers, type scale, first elements, in that order; each caption names a rule and its number. · 1 not 9:16 or outside 15–60 s, a number on a caption that is not the one set in Inkscape, or no receipt.
