MD1.3

Raster Fundamentals

Level 2 · BootCampMD1 FoundationsTaught week 2 Thursday morning

Start the Lesson

By the end you can build with layers and read your stack aloud, make selections that hold with the rectangle, free select and select by colour and refine them with feather, grow and shrink, lift a subject with a layer mask instead of the eraser and prove nothing was deleted, judge your own edge at 100 percent, and compose a market-day poster to a brief with every layer named, saved as XCF and exported flat.

Start the lesson 55 moves in 10 parts. You need: GIMP, installed in MD1.1 (or Photopea, if your install log says so) · the photo pack in your MD folder · your decision card from MD1.2 · your notebook and a pencil · your phone

Submit Your Work

What You Turn In

  1. Your working file (XCF)
    1. At least five named layers, one layer mask doing real work, type on its own layer, labelled Hand-made; nothing erased
  2. The flat export (PNG or JPEG)
    1. The poster as a client sees it on a phone: subject, pack background, headline, date line
  3. Edge screenshot at 100 percent
    1. Your worst edge, after you fixed it
  4. Your notebook page, photographed
    1. Paper thumbnail made before the build; tour log in your words; method note with one real doubt and how you would find out; finish plan ticked
  5. Clip of the Day: The Poster, Layer by Layer fill in on the hub
    1. By the week 3 Monday morning meeting: 15 to 25 seconds, upright 9:16, exported at 720p as an MP4 under 30 MB (megabytes) and saved in your own Mufasa folder; four layer states in build order ending on the full poster; a caption naming each layer; your name and Hand-made on the end card; the Google Drive share link (viewer) in Asha, never the video itself

Stuck, or want to check your thinking? Paste this card into your own AI and ask it to question you, not answer for you.
