Command Line

Level 2 · BootCampSCS1 FoundationsTaught week 2 Tuesday morning

Start the Lesson

By the end you can find your way around a Linux machine with pwd, ls and cd, say what a command will print before you press Enter, make, copy, move and remove files by command, read a permission line as a sentence, and run the whole task run with the mouse untouched.

Start the lesson 66 moves in 13 parts. You need: Ubuntu-SCS opening as your own name (from SCS1.1) · your copy of the SCS1.2 folder, copied down from Mufasa · your notebook and a pen

What You Turn In

  1. Your task run: notes/tree.txt and notes/history.txt from cli-run
    1. Done in the terminal only; you can explain every command in one line when a coach asks; check-scs1.2 items 1 to 8 say PASS
  2. Your cheat card, as a photo of the notebook page and as notes/cheat-card.txt fill in on the hub
    1. At least eight commands in your own words, one line of what and one line of when for each; check-scs1.2 item 9 says PASS
  3. The rm ritual and the permissions read, witnessed
    1. You named the target aloud, checked with ls, then deleted, on a throwaway file; you read ls -l on one real file and made one script runnable after reading it
  4. Your AI-ask receipt, one line on the card
    1. You tested the tool's explanation in the practice tree before running the command for real
  5. Your check-scs1.2 receipt from ~/scs-checks
    1. Nine of nine PASS; the COACH lines seen by a coach
  6. Your run log with three times
    1. The room, the second run, the third from memory; every consult marked; tonight's backup-scs receipt read

Stuck, or want to check your thinking? Paste this card into your own AI and ask it to question you, not answer for you.
