Design Literacy for All
Start the Lesson
By the end you can squint at any page and say in one sentence why it fails; build a three-colour palette where every colour has a job and a second signal; pair two typefaces and say what each does; rebuild a bad local layout with alignment, proximity, white space and hierarchy, labelling each fix by rule; read a phone screen the way you read a flyer and name the state it is missing; sort found material into usable, usable with credit and never for paid work; and defend your choices in three sentences that cite rules, not preference.
Submit Your Work
What You Turn In
- Your palette, type and grid sheet
- Three colours, each with a job; two faces with the why in one line; one grid or alignment rule; made for your own piece; passes the squint test
- Your rebuild, before and after fill in on the hub
- A bad local layout rebuilt, on screen or with scissors and glue; four fixes labelled by rule with a reason each; the after passes the squint and a stranger names the first read
- Your credited asset list
- Every font, photo and image on your piece with its source and licence, sorted usable / credit / never; the eight-item sort passed; any AI imagery labelled
- Your three-sentence defence
- Why these colours, why these faces, what jobs; in your own words, citing the rules
- Your Screens page (stays in your notebook)
- One phone screen read: its four parts, the first read, a tap target that fails, a state it is missing, and your fix sketched by rule
How
- Asha, by Saturday's update.

- Credited asset list: Every asset with source and licence, sorted usable / credit / never; eight-item sort passed; AI imagery labelled
- Three-sentence defence: In the trainee's own words, citing rules not preference
- Screens page: Parts, first read, a failing tap target, a missing state, fix sketched by rule
