Mobile LEAP

Level 1: digital literacy, work skills and three explorations, taught on the explorer's own phone, ending in a capstone and a Career Map.

Updated 24 October 2026

Mobile LEAP is Level 1: six weeks of digital livelihoods training for young adults in rural East Africa, entirely on the phones the explorers already own. The learner is an explorer. The motto is Learning, Earning and Problem-Solving.

On a Phone

Nothing needs a laptop: the office tools are Google's, the coding apps and Canva run on the phone, and every worksheet comes in paper, digital and large-print form. Accommodation for second-language English and for disability is the default.

The Foundations

Taught in the first three weeks, then woven through.

CodeModuleSessions
PFoundation Personal Development6, from P1 Growth Mindset to P6 Working in Teams
DOFoundation Digital Office11, from DO1 Introduction to Digital Office to DO11 Online Meetings
MCFoundation Mobile Computing5, from MC1 Your Phone is a Computer to MC5 Connected; MC3 AI on Your Phone anchors the AI habit
DLFoundation Digital Learning4, from DL1 Learning to Learn to DL4 Show Your Learning
FLFoundation Financial Literacy3, from FL1 Money Basics to FL3 Into the Formal Economy
PDFoundation Professional Development5, from PD1 Application Pack to PD5 Interview Experience
BEMFoundation BEM (business, entrepreneurship and marketing)5, from BEM1 Business Freelance and Employment to BEM5 Online Marketing

The Explorations

Every explorer samples all three; they are pathways, not rankings. Teams are remixed between explorations, so every explorer is seen three times before capstone teams form.

CodeModuleSessions
X1X1 Code and Systems9, from X1.1 What is Code to X1.9 Taking it Further
X2X2 Media and Design9, from X2.1 Seeing Design and Canva to X2.9 Taking it Further
X3X3 Content Enterprise6, from X3.1 You Are the Enterprise to X3.6 Taking it Further

Taking it Further closes each exploration by gathering the coaches' observations into the Career Map. X1 and X2 end with a First Offer Card; X3.5 prices it with a floor formula, a price sheet, a pitch and an invoice, using rates from a verified rates workbook only.

The Capstone

The programme ends with an individual capstone. Each explorer presents their portfolio and Career Map to a panel on the pitch days of the final week, and graduates the day after with a portfolio piece from each track, a CV and application pack, a Career Map with three evidenced track entries, and a priced selling kit.

How a Cohort Runs

  1. The crew. A Cohort Captain runs the training location. Each session has one Guide at the front and three or four Coaches circulating with the Coach Card; Evaluators review the work against the criteria. Who is who.
  2. The sessions. Every block ships a kit: Session Map, Session Presentation, Worksheets in large print too, a one-page Take-Home Card and a Video Script; exploration blocks add a Step-by-Step Review annex and a Coach Card. Every block ends with something the explorer made.
  3. The rhythm. A daily ritual, a Friday Show and Tell where everyone presents at least twice, and pitch days and graduation in the final week.
  4. AI. AI is tutor, never author. The three-move habit, attempt, ask AI to critique, verify, is anchored in MC3 and runs through every track; X1.7 and X3 teach the director's workflow: humans specify, AI drafts, humans review and own what ships.
  5. Projects. A bio page and a team site in X1, a client piece and a film in X2, client work and a content channel in X3, then the individual capstone.

On The Hub

Each session has a page under Mobile LEAP with the take-home card, worksheets and presentation. Each module has a coach prompt under Prompts for the explorer's own AI; the study coach prompt works with any take-home card. Work is handed in on each session page's form, or in Asha where the session says so. The crew's files are in the Crew section for signed-in Cohort Captains, Guides and Coaches.
